Keep Your Water Clean

The Central Utah Water Conservancy District has been participating in the Provo River Watershed Council (PRWC) since 1979 with its primary goal to protect and enhance water quality in Deer Creek Reservoir. Cooperating federal, state, and local agencies are accomplishing this goal through a comprehensive watershed protection program, which has included water quality monitoring, implementation of pollution control facilities, development code revisions, and more restrictive discharge permits. The result has been improved water quality in Deer Creek with less severe algal blooms, reducing taste and odor problems at an annual cost of less than $1.00 per acre foot of delivered M&I water. The District believes that watershed protection provides a cost effective first line barrier in water treatment.

A public education subcommittee within PRWC led by the District developed the logo you see on this page to convey the message that Deer Creek and Jordanelle Reservoirs and the tributaries are not only high quality recreation waters, but are also drinking water sources for the major portion of the state's population. Wtih cooperation from the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources and Utah Division of Parks and Recreation, the logo has been published in the 1998 Fishing Proclamation, Wildlife Review, and Discover. Signs with the logo will be posted at access points to the reservoirs and car litter bags with the logo will be distributed at the park entrances. The District has expanded the use of the logo to other facilities to further promote the protection of drinking water sources.
